Resources Overview:
Providing links for research is tricky business. Websites come and go. Many websites have advertisements and some are not designed with young people in mind. Websites can be large and while we have looked at the links provided here and found them useful; there is no way we can follow every link from them and make sure that there is nothing inappropriate. The links provided on this page and the other resource pages are to be used at your own risk. If there is something inappropriate or upsetting please leave that page and let us know using the contact page or tell us when you are at school so that we may remove that link if necessary.
Research has two parts and two to three separate assignments
Assignment one: Create a bibliography of your sources as you find them.
That is explained below: (minimum of 5 separate sources)
There are many ways to do that and we will teach you in class how to as the research part of the projects does include time provided in class.
However, if you are not in our classes or want to get going at home here is what you need to know.
However, if you are not in our classes or want to get going at home here is what you need to know.
- Every project needs a Bibliography which will include all of the sources used and consulted.
- You can make one bibliography for all of the assignments.
- Cite and use at least 5 separate sources: 5 Wikipedia articles count as one source (Wikipedia)
- There are different ways to cite resources. We will use MLA so that we are aligned with future high school requirements.
- You will use a MLA citation generator to help with this task. Below are two of them.
- We will use "Cite this Form" as it does not require and email address and it has a Chrome Browser Extension
- The other one Cite Fast is good but it requires an Email address to set up an account
Now I know how to keep track of it: What do I research?
Assignment two and three: Keep track of your notes.
1. You will make one file for your written research: At a minimum you will need to have 5 separate facts for five aspects of Egypt making at least 25 separate facts as a minimum. For the most part these facts should be paraphrased. (Paraphrased means written mostly in your words) If you research how to do something technical for your project (like how to make paper mache') Those notes can be copied directly rather then in your words.
2. You will make a separate file for visual research: This is where you will copy pictures or links to videos that you need to refer to for making your project. (examples include a painting of a pharaoh for designing your costume or a map of the inside of your pyramid for designing your Minecraft pyramid tunnels. Your visual sources should be labeled (see research example links below)
Other things you might research:
- Facts to use during presentation day as people come by and you share your facts.
- Construction techniques such as how do I build a cardboard pyramid or what is the recipe for paper mache or how do I add labels to MineCraft?
- Visual Research; A diagram of the corridors in the great Pyramid or the face of a pharaoh for the Egyptian Death Mask
- Pronunciation help if you are presenting something orally like Pharaoh for a day
- The above are suggestions to help you. What you need to research will vary based on the project you choose
